Sunway Lagoon, Kuala Lumpur

It was a long journey reaching Kuala Lumpur. We had taken a Singapore airline flight which stopped at Singapore. The flight from Kolkata was a bad experience as the in flight food service took almost 3 hrs, there was no time to catch up on sleep. The lights were never put off and when we reached Singapore airport there was no place to sleep, we just explored the airport in early morning hours.
We reached Kuala lumpur. Luckily at the airport we found a taxi which took us to Sunway Lagoon at two thirds the price, that they were asking at the official desk.
We reached Sunway Lagoon and checked into the resort and went to explore the pyramid mall. The mall was huge with lots of showrooms of international brands. The ice skating rink in the atria was great and amazing. Then we went to our room to rest and all of us fell asleep at 4pm local time and then woke up at 1.30am night. We were more jetlagged and tired than we had been when we had reached New york from New Delhi, due to the poor inflight service in the flight from Kolkata. We placed an order with the room service and to our relief the food was good. We even got daal and rice at that hour.

Planning a trip to Singapore and Malaysia

In December 2008 last week we went to Malaysia and Singapore and also took a luxury cruise of 3days from Singapore. After our trip on our own to US - that means without a tour operator, we were feeling quite upto it. To our shock and dismay we found that in sharp contrast to US of A where you can purchase and/or book anything via the net it was quite the opposite in South East Asia. We were getting cheaper bookings through agents than through the concerned establishment directly.
We had a long planning phase and looked up all the possible hotels etc. For hotels you can get a fairly great idea about the place by searching tripadvisor.
For the location of hotels and sightseeing locations the onion maps were so much easier to follow than the regular maps.
For booking hotels the cheapest rates by far were given by Marimari.com for Kuala lumpur and Singapore. But the apartment which we eventually booked was through Wotif as no other agent was giving a booking for it and the apartments also were not ready to give us a reservation over there directly. In Singapore we stayed at Somerset Apartments on Orchard road there were not many choices for serviced apartments for a very short duration of two or 3 days
